Before you can ever go out to the poker tables or online at Pocker Star you need to learn how to play poker and that includes learning the value of each hand so that you know where you stand in a hand. Poker is full of odds and percentages that you need to learn and analyze throughout your play and if you aren’t than you’re not going to win much money. If you don’t even know where your hand ranks, than you’re going to be able to determine whether or not your opponent is bluffing you or if you’re winning. Below we’re going to look at the value of each hand starting with the best poker hand and finishing with the worst poker hand.
Royal Flush
A royal flush is the best hand in poker that you can get and it is very rarely seen while playing. In order to get a royal flush you need an A-K-Q-J-10 of the same suit.
Straight Flush
A straight flush is a great hand to get on PokerStars and can only lose to a royal flush. A straight flush is any five card straight of the same suit so for example a 7-6-5-4-3 of hearts is a straight flush.
Four of a Kind
A four of kind is another rare hand which simply is four of any card so for example any 8-8-8-8-6 would be a four of kind with four eights.
Full House
A full house is any three of a kind and pair in the same hand. As an example a full house could potentially be a 8-8-8-7-7 which has trip eights and a pair of sevens for a full house.
Flush
A flush is any five cards of the same suit in any order an example would be the 9-6-5-3-2 of spades.
Straight
A straight is any five cards in sequential order of any suits so you could have a 9-8-7-6-5 of any suit and it would be a straight. Get a straight on Full Tilt Poker and you should win the hand with no problems.
Three of a Kind
A three of a kind is pretty self-explanatory as well and is when you hold any three of the same card with any two other cards. An example would be a 8-8-8-5-2.
Two Pair
Two pairs is when you obviously have two pairs in your hand an example would be 8-8-7-7-6.
One Pair
One pair is one of the easiest hands to get in poker and you only need to have two of the same card for a pair with an example being 8-8-6-5-3.
High Card
High card usually never wins, but sometimes no one will hit a pair in the hand and if this is the case then the person with the highest card wins. Ace is the highest and then goes through the deck from there ending with the deuces.
If you read through the list a couple times you should be able to remember most of these when you are playing on FullFilt although if you know you’re going to forget then you should bookmark the information for the down the road. New players might have trouble remembering what beats what so don’t be afraid of having this page up while playing online poker since it will only help you analyze your hands.
